Meet a teacher and a teacher educator who will report about how a group of MA degree students introduced Lesson Study in gifted education in their schools and register for an online question and answer session on 21st April, so that you can learn more about their experiences.

Speakers

Claudia Mewald lectures English methodology, children’s literature, applied linguistics, testing & assessment and research at the University College of Teacher Education in Lower Austria. Before, she taught English, History and Arts at primary, special educational needs, and secondary schools. Her research interests are testing & assessment, learner autonomy, CLIL (content and language integrated learning), competency-based language education, and multilingualism. She is council member of WALS and implements Lesson Study in teacher education and professional development on a regular basis.

In her presentation, Claudia will introduce the MA programme Developing Giftedness – Developing Schools and report about a module on Lesson Study within this programme. She will briefly present five lesson studies carried out by the 24 participants of the current course.


Gabriele Niederberger is a middle school teacher of English, CLIL and Biology. She enjoys being an enabler, a practitioner as well as a researcher in the classroom.

Gabriele holds teaching degrees for primary and secondary schools. Since 2020 she has also been a specialist in gifted education (ECHA). Apart from being a full-time teacher, a passionate reader and dancer, Gabriele is currently working on her thesis to get a master’s degree in education from the University College of Teacher Education of Lower Austria.

In her presentation, Gabriele will introduce her Lesson Study on accelerating writing through intensive reading and the related increase in lexical range in a middle school fostering the gifted in motor skills, mathematics and cognitive thinking and languages.
