About this Webinar

This book, mostly by teachers, describes what they learned from lesson study about mathematics, about lesson design, about student thinking, and about teacher collaboration and leadership. Join this webinar to hear how the book came to be and how you can (and should!) write the next one.

Akihiko Takahashi, Ph.D. (co-editor) is a professor of mathematics education at DePaul University in Chicago and a worldwide expert in Lesson Study and elementary mathematics. He is the author of several books, including most recently Teaching Mathematics through Problem Solving: A Pedagogical Approach from Japan.

Tom McDougal (co-editor) is a former high school math teacher, elementary math coach, and the founder and Executive Director of Lesson Study Alliance, a non-profit organization in Chicago. He has been working with Dr. Takahashi since 2007 to promote and support Lesson Study worldwide.

Berenice Heinlein teaches bilingual grade 4 at Helen Peirce Elementary school in Chicago. She has been involved in Lesson Study since 2018 and is part of her school’s Lesson Study Steering Committee.

Lindsay Singer Kalt teaches math at Detroit Prep in Detroit, where she leads a Lesson Study initiative. She began participating in Lesson Study in 2017 as a teacher at Chavez Multicultural Academic Center in Chicago.

Meghan Smith taught grades 1 and 2 at O’Keeffe Elementary School and grades 1 and 3 at Latin School in Chicago. She is currently working towards her doctorate at Stanford University.
