World Association of Lesson Studies International Conference 2021

From November 29th to December 2nd, the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) International Conference was to take place in Macau and Hong Kong. As a result of the pandemic, this amazing conference will now be online. We are working closely with Dr Po Yuk Ko and Dr Sean Li in Hong Kong and Macau respectively to bring you a fantastic online conference with world class keynote speakers, Learning Studies from Hong Kong and Macau and programmes in our three time zones featuring practice, research and lesson and learning studies from around the world. The world has seen a revolution in the development and use of online lesson study since WALS 2020 and we will see innovative examples. The theme of the conference is ‘Revisiting Lesson and Learning Studies: Accessibility, Quality, and Sustainability”.

We invite teachers, administrators, researchers and community leaders from all around the world to take part in this conference. Together, we will deepen our understanding and implementation of Lesson and Learning Studies.

We are extending our submission date for contributions to 13 August 2021 because we know more people will wish to do so online and we have also lowered the conference price so everyone gets the former student discount. Please register here for the conference which includes: a year’s membership of WALS; access to all WALS 2021 and 2020 sessions; the International Journal of Lesson and Learning Studies; all WALS Webinars; WALS PhD network and of course the WALS community.

As you may know, WALS was founded at Hong Kong after two international conferences on classroom-based learning and lesson studies. The first International Conference of WALS was held in 2007 at The Hong Kong Institute of Education (The university was retitled as “The Education University of Hong Kong” in 2016) in Hong Kong SAR. Since then, Lesson Study and Learning Study have been increasingly popular and have been widespread all over the world. With the contributions from academics, education practitioners, and frontline teachers around the globe, WALS Conferences have been held successfully for fourteen consecutive years. With your strong and unfailing support, we believe that WALS Association and WALS Conference will be continuously contributing to the new knowledge generation of practice-based classroom teaching and learning.
