It is our great pleasure to announce that WALS 2021 will be held in Macau and Hong Kong. The Main Conference will take place at City University of Macau, Macau SAR, from 29 November to 1 December 2021, and a Learning Study Immersion Programme at the Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, on 2-3 December 2021. WALS Conference this year will be co-organised by the two sister cities, Macau and Hong Kong. The main theme for the WALS 2021 Conference is
“Revisiting Lesson and Learning Studies: Accessibility, Quality, and Sustainability”.As it is hard to predict the pandemic situation in the later part of the year, WALS2021 will be organized in a blended mode. That is, both onsite and online. For the onsite part, there will be social events including conference dinner and cultural activities, such as school visits, city tours, and immersion programme. You are cordially invited to join WALS 2021. Participants will have a chance to take a glimpse of both cities in one go. Please visit the conference website regularly to keep updated about the detailed programme arrangement.
As you may know, WALS was founded in Hong Kong after two international conferences on classroom-based learning and lesson studies. The first International Conference of WALS was held in 2007 at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (The university was retitled as “The Education University of Hong Kong” in 2016) in Hong Kong SAR. Since then, Lesson Study and Learning Study have been increasingly popular and have been widespread all over the world. With the contributions from academics, education practitioners, and frontline teachers around the globe, WALS Conferences have been held successfully for fourteen consecutive years.
As Co-Chairs of WALS 2021, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to all participants for joining the conference. With your strong and unfailing support, we believe that WALS Association and WALS Conference will be continuously contributing to the new knowledge generation of practice-based classroom teaching and learning. Do come to the fabulous city of Macau and revisit Hong Kong in November.
