The World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) is hosting its 10th Annual International Conference at Indonesia University of Education in Bandung, Indonesia from November 25 through 28, 2014. This conference is organized by Indonesia University of Education with the cooperation with the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Provincial Office of Education of West Java, and Government of Bandung City.

This is the first time the WALS conference will be held in Bandung, the heart of Lesson Study in Indonesia. Since its introduction in Indonesia a decade ago, Lesson Study has drawn interest from educators in Indonesia as an approach to school-university partnerships in the context of teacher education and development that have an impact on the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning. Through technical cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency, Indonesia University of Education plays an important role in developing and disseminating Lesson Study across the country, including also to other countries in Asia and Africa. In addition, Indonesia University of Education has organized annual conference on Lesson Study in Indonesia since 2006.

In previous WALS conferences, educators and teachers from Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America came together to share their research and best practices on improving the quality of teaching and learning, teacher education and development, school improvement, and learning community through Lesson and Learning Studies. The theme of WALS 2014 is Becoming Reflective Educators and Professionals of Learning. This theme reflects the continuity of efforts to be reflective educators and professional who never stop learning. Such is represented in the form knowledge, expertise, and other resources which are developed, invested, accumulated, and distributed to improve the quality of teaching and learning. This conference will discuss and expand research into what needs to be learned and reflected, and study the characteristics of the practice of reflection among educators and the culture professional learning.

We cordially invite researchers and practitioners working in the school environment from various countries and regions to join us for the WALS 2014 conference. WALS 2014 will provide you with interesting experience about the uniqueness of Lesson Study in Indonesia combined with the richness of experience and practice on Lesson and Learning Studies from all over the world. We proudly announce that we have invited Professor Catherine Lewis, Professor Manabu Sato, Professor Didi Suryadi, Professor Lo Mun Ling and Professor Jan Vermunt as keynote speakers.

We also hope that you will find plenary sessions meaningful which are organized collaboratively by researchers, teacher-educators, practitioners, and school leaders from Lesson and Learning Study field. These sessions will not only discuss topics relevant to learning processes at school and university but they will also discuss topics in the contexts of special education, pre-school, and large-scale educational development. Furthermore, we will also provide you with opportunities to visit some schools in the City of Bandung during the final day of the conference.
