WALS 2026: Connecting Lesson Study Around the World
We warmly invite you to participate in the 2026 Conference of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS), to be held online November 2-4, 2026.
The conference theme, Connecting Lesson Study Around the World, continues to explore how educators learn from one another, from students, and from research—within a school, region, country, or across international boundaries.
The 2026 Conference will mark the 20th anniversary of WALS and the inauguration of online conferences (2026, 2028, 2030…) that will alternate with face-to-face conferences (2027, 2029, 2031…). The online conferences will reduce the carbon footprint of WALS and the participation cost. The conference fee (including WALS membership) will be approximately 150 USD, with a half-price for full-time students and school teachers. With no travel or accommodation expenses and a lower conference fee, the online conference will open up our work to many more educators, and will allow new opportunities to conduct lesson study together via video.
Conference sessions will include familiar session types (e.g. keynotes, symposia, papers, posters) and new session types that take advantage of online opportunities (e.g., member discussion of keynotes, member participation in post-lesson discussions of research lessons, opportunity to use languages other than English via automatic translation).
The second Call for Proposals in mid-February will provide more details on session types, conference fee, and conference schedule. Mark the date on your calendar now and look forward to WALS 2026!
More information will be available at a later time.
