Call For Proposal - General
We warmly invite you to participate in WALS 2025, November 10-12 in Hiroshima, Japan.
The theme of WALS 2025 is Tsunagu (connect). There are many things that we need to Tsunagu (connect) to make our community better (e.g. Jyugyo Kenkyuu (授業研究) in Japan and Lesson Study in the world, Lesson Study and Learning Study, Lesson Study beyond one school subject, Lesson Study and Teacher Education). With your presentations, we believe that we can Tsunagu (connect) the mentioned gap and make WALS more fruitful. Although Tsunagu (connect) will be a central theme of the conference, contributions to all aspects of Lesson Study and Learning Study are welcome.
- Japan Day will be held only on the third day of the conference.
- The participant in Japan Day is qualified to make a presentation only if they belong to an educational institution in Japan.
- Presentations will be in Japanese; proposals may be submitted in Japanese or English
Submission Formats
Deadline: The deadline for all proposal submissions is April 15.
You can submit a proposal in one of the following formats.
Note: Japan Day participants cannot submit the same proposal for General and Japan Day.
Paper Presentation
A 15-minute presentation of your work on Lesson Study or Learning Study. Paper presentations will be grouped into sessions of three or four. A paper presentation presents research or practical work on or with Lesson Study or Learning Study.
Roundtable Presentation
A 10-minute presentation of your work on Lesson Study or Learning Study. Roundtable presentations will be grouped into sessions of three or four. Compared to paper presentations, roundtable presentations will give you more time to discuss your work with other conference participants more casually. Roundtable presentations also welcome work in progress.
Teacher Talk
A 15-minute presentation on why and how you do Lesson Study or Learning Study. These sessions are reports by teachers and other educators directly involved in Lesson Study or Learning Study. It will be grouped into sessions of three or four. These practice-based presentations will motivate participants to initiate or reflect on their lesson or learning study projects and create a practitioner network to support each other’s projects.
Poster Presentation
An interactive session presenting your work on a poster and communicating with other conference participants. During the conference, single posters are grouped thematically in a dedicated poster session. Poster presentations also welcomes work in progress.
Symposium
A 90-minute symposium consists of three or four related talks on a topic related to Lesson Study or Learning Study, followed by a discussion initiated by a discussant. The symposium organizer submits these papers together as a single proposal.
Workshop
A 90-minute session with active participation. Participants might, for example, explore teaching materials and methods or try Lesson Study or Learning Study tools. The workshop proposal should explain the activities participants will engage in.
