Dear WALS member,

I begin with a major announcement: we must change the date and place of the WALS 2023 conference. WALS 2023 will now be held during late November or early December 2023, in a European location. The new dates and venue are being finalized and will be announced by March 15. The conference will be face-to-face with an online component. I know that changing location and date poses an inconvenience to some WALS members who have already made travel plans, and I offer a sincere apology. Unfortunately, the team in Austria was unable to fulfill the terms of its signed proposal after dismissing their conference chairperson. WALS officers, after consulting with past presidents and Ex-Co members, made the judgment that we could not guarantee a high-quality conference experience in Baden. So we opted for a slightly delayed WALS 2023, in a venue where we can be certain of an excellent conference experience.

Thanks to many members for the updates below. You can read about the new Co-Editors of IJLLS and see the terrific line-up of upcoming webinars. Please share your thoughts on proposed new categories for the WALS homepage content.

Related to the homepage, we are looking for volunteers (contact kim@walsnet.org) to:

• Suggest their favorite lesson study/learning study resources to be linked there
• Start Special Interest Groups that will post links to key resources and connect members who share a particular interest (e.g., early childhood, special education, science)
• Serve as regional contacts (for your country or region) who help members connect with others in your region
