Introduction

The World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) understands and respects the importance of your privacy and we are committed to safeguarding your personal information. In the course of the services we provide, we will collect personal information from you and make subsequent use of it as detailed below.

This Privacy Notice applies to all the pages of WALS. The Privacy Notice does not apply to any third-party sites linked to WALS. When visiting linked third-party sites we recommend you read the individual privacy notice as necessary. WALS cannot accept any responsibility for personal information given via a third-party site.

What information will WALS collect about me?

We may collect all or some of the following personal information:

  • Name and contact details
  • Job title
  • Organisation title
  • Information about your interest and involvement in Lesson Study and related activities
How does WALS collect my information?

We will only collect personal information from you by specifically asking for it:

  • When you register as a member of WALS to receive email updates and newsletters, to access the IJLLS and Members only parts of the site, or to take part in surveys.
  • When you use the contact form to make an enquiry.
Cookies

Please note that in order for us to provide you with optimum service, we use ‘Cookies’ on our website. ‘Cookies’ are a feature of web browser software which allows web servers to temporarily store information within your browser. ‘Cookies’ allow us to obtain information regarding users of our site which essentially helps us to provide you with a better user experience and tailor our services to your individual needs. We don’t store and record any of your passwords or other highly sensitive data and whilst we initially send you a password when you register, you are free to change this whenever you want. Most browsers automatically allow ‘cookies,’ however usually your web browser will enable you to disable ‘cookies’ should you wish to do so.

In a separate operation Google Analytics will collect your IP address and browser type and details of the website you came from before entering our site. This information is used to work out how many times our site has been visited and record which parts of our site have been visited so we can improve the content and layout of the site. This information is anonymous – it is not used to identify you.

What will we do with your information?

We will use your information to enrol and involve you in our services as requested by you.

We may also use your information to invite you to take part in surveys to support the development of Lesson and Learning Studies, allow us to suggest links to universities, schools and organisations which may benefit from working with and learning from each other. We will not pass your details to any third party without your consent.

Receipt of our posts, resources and participation in surveys is entirely voluntary. You may unsubscribe from being contacted for these purposes at any time.

We have taken all reasonable steps to have appropriate security measures in place to protect your information. Outside the European Economic Area, controls on data protection may not be as wide as the legal requirements in this country. The transmission of information via the internet is never completely secure. We exclude our liability for personal data lost in transmission to the website.

What can I do?

To cancel your subscription or if you do not agree to our use of your information as set out above, you should inform us as soon as possible by email to the address below.

As a visitor to our site, you agree not to misuse any personal information available on our site or to gather it or use robots or other automated scripts, codes or functionalities to do so.

We may immediately suspend or terminate your access to our site without notice if we become aware that you are in breach of applicable terms and conditions of use or of this Privacy Policy.
