Center of Excellence AEO “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools”

Centre of Excellence under the auspices of Autonomous Educational Organization “Nazarbayev Intellectual schools” (CoE) has branches in all of the regions of the country, where teacher training courses and workshops are provided by trainers.

Conceptualising Lesson Study as one of the key drivers for the transformation of teaching practice and instrument for teacher learning, CoE has been introducing it since 2012 as one of the concepts within training courses for teachers and school leaders.

With the aim to provide an opportunity for Kazakhstani teachers to learn about Lesson Study and consequently to promote and develop Lesson Study in Kazakhstan CoE has created the website Lessonstudy.kz and started the development of necessary guidelines in Kazakh and Russian languages.

As part of the further plans, along with existing activities, CoE is planning:

• to start organisation in Kazakhstan Lesson Study annual teacher conferences on the regional and national levels in order to provide school leaders and teachers opportunity to share their experience of Lesson study and discuss issues regarding teaching and learning in Kazakhstani schools;
• to start training school Lesson Study trainers, who will be leading learning within the schools (introducing and facilitating Lesson study in their own schools).
