<p><span class="dropcap">T</span>he World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) is hosting its 8th Annual International Conference in Singapore. This conference is co-organised by the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Academy of Principals, Singapore (APS) with support from the Ministry of Education, Singapore.</p>
<p>Previous WALS Conferences have brought together educators and teachers from China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, the US, the UK, Sweden, and many other countries around the world to share their research on improving the quality of learning, and experience and practice in Lesson Studies. The events have provided a useful and convivial platform to discuss issues pertaining to teaching and learning.</p>
<p>As the Conference organizers, we would like to invite researchers and practitioners from various countries and regions to join us at WALS 2012. It will surely provide a unique opportunity and an international educational arena where teaching practitioners and academics can share their potential collaborative research and development projects. If you have always wanted partners and collaborators across countries and contexts, your participation in WALS 2012 may well be the start of exciting synergies to take your research and practice into more meaningful dimensions.</p>
<p>We have arranged for three keynote speakers to address you at the conference.</p>

<p>You may also look forward to exciting plenary sessions collaboratively organised by researchers, teacher educators and school leaders from the Lesson Study field. Representatives from various countries including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam will be addressing a range of international perspectives on enduring issues pertaining to leadership, partnership, school reform, pedagogy, learning communities and students development in relation to Lesson Study.</p>
<p>In addition, we will be organizing post-conference optional visits to Singapore’s educational institutions on 30 November. These visits will be an opportunity for you to experience our schools, Institutes of Technical Education, polytechnics and universities.</p>
